Laurie shared her testimony about a season in her life when she experienced same-sex attraction. She thought she would never get married because of her past, but she met a godly man who showed her that pure love existed.

Dealing with Same-Sex Attraction

Laurie first noticed that she was attracted to the same gender when she was in elementary and until she grew up. During high school, she overheard girls her age talking about how attractive she was. It fueled the attraction she felt toward the same gender.

“Something inside was thrilled because I was seen and I was noticed. I knew and I heard God saying like, ‘Laurie, I see you, I noticed you.’ I heard him calling me off in the distance but it didn’t seem like that was enough. And so I really turned to friendships and relationships. In it, I felt like I found that one friend and it quickly turned sexualized,” she said.

When The Same-Sex Attraction Stopped

Laurie felt it was better to have a relationship with another woman because she could understand her better than a man. She had an intimate relationship with a woman and she thought they could fix each other but it didn’t heal her.

When she talked to a trusted professor, Laurie said that she “Spoke life right into that darkness.” Afterward, she opened up about childhood trauma.

“I was molested by a stranger in a store when I was 11, which I think contributed somewhat to my distrust of men, at least, and feeling more safe with women. And I don’t think that’s what caused my same-sex attractions but I was afraid of men. Because they just seemed like sex maniacs and I started dealing with that with her husband, a man who helped me to begin trusting,” she said.

Same-Sex Attraction Stopped When She Met A Man Of God

Everything changed when she met Matt. They met and were in spiritual formation together. One day she asked Matt to go out and review local establishments for one of the journals that she did for the newspaper. From there on, they had a good time and started talking from there.

“He helped me to see that there really were good guys who could go deep with me. I like to talk deeply. And so he could actually go there. And I don’t know, I really started to like him. It’s not that I was falling in love with all men or like becoming heterosexual but I was falling in love with Matt,” Laurie said.
