Why does God allow evil to exist?

Have you ever wondered why God allows evil to exist? Let’s dive into this deep and thought-provoking question. The existence of evil is tied to the gift of free will that God has given humanity. With free will comes the capacity to choose between good and evil. Throughout the Bible, we see that human choices and actions have consequences, both positive and negative. Galatians 6, 7-8 reminds us, Do not be deceived. God cannot be mocked.

A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction. Whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. The presence of evil and suffering can serve as a means of testing and refining our faith.
In James 1, 2-4 it is written, Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.

Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. Difficulties can lead to spiritual growth, character development, and a deepening reliance on God. Although evil exists in the present world, God has a redemptive plan to ultimately overcome evil and restore all things. Romans 8.28 assures us that, “…in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” God can use even the darkest circumstances for His purposes and ultimately bring about a greater good. He promises a future where there will be no more tears, pain, or death.

Evil’s existence is intertwined with the gift of free will, allowing us to choose our path. Trials and suffering can refine our faith and develop our character. God’s ultimate plan is one of redemption and restoration, turning even the darkest times into a greater good. Drop an amen if you have God in your heart.
